LPBOA Chairman Gemunu Wijeratne said the situation has become increasingly difficult to manage, despite an increase in the fuel quota, noting that operational costs have surged beyond sustainable levels.
He cautioned that unless urgent measures are taken, further disruptions to public transport services are inevitable.
Against this backdrop, Wijeratne said bus fares are likely to be increased by at least 15 percent, with revised minimum and long-distance fares expected to be announced today.
The price of Lanka Auto Diesel was raised by Rs. 79 last night, bringing the cost per litre to Rs. 382.
