It was reported that fuel bowsers, which arrived early this morning to collect ordered stocks, were forced to turn back empty-handed as the terminal failed to release supplies.
This development follows an explicit assurance given yesterday by Mayura Neththikumara, the Managing Director of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC). He had publicly stated that fuel distribution would continue as usual throughout Saturday and Sunday to meet the prevailing demand across the country.
Witnesses at the Kolonnawa terminal reported a frustrating scene for transport contractors and bowser drivers. Many had arrived at the facility before dawn, expecting a smooth loading process based on the CPC’s weekend schedule. However, by mid-morning, it became clear that no fuel was being issued for distribution, leading to a significant buildup of vehicles before they eventually departed without their cargo.
