Illegal diesel haul seized in Kotahena

Police in Kotahena have arrested a suspect for transporting a large stock of diesel valued at over Rs. 600,000 without a valid licence. The arrest was made during a night patrol conducted by officers from the Sri Lanka Police.

During the operation, officers took into custody 2,000 litres of diesel packed in ten barrels, each containing 200 litres. The suspect was intercepted while driving a covered lorry along George R. De Silva Mawatha following intelligence received from the Western Province Intelligence Unit.

A search of the vehicle revealed the concealed stock of diesel stored inside the barrels. Police stated that the suspect admitted during questioning that the fuel was being transported for illegal sale.

The arrested individual is a 25-year-old resident of Nawalapitiya. Further investigations are being carried out by the Kotahena Police.
