The government is considering increasing fuel quotas for container trucks following concerns from transport operators that current allocations are insufficient for operations.

Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation Anura Karunathilake stated that discussions will be held with the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation and other relevant authorities to address the issue and provide a prompt solution.

Container truck owners have highlighted that inadequate fuel supplies are affecting the timely transportation of import and export containers, potentially contributing to congestion at the Colombo Port and delays in export shipments.

In response, the Ministry has already collected detailed data, including QR code information, from 1,325 container trucks through the Container Transport Vehicle Owners Association to ensure a more accurate and streamlined fuel distribution process.

The proposed measures are expected to support uninterrupted container movement, reduce port congestion, and prevent disruptions to the country’s export sector.
