The case was called before Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama. During the proceedings, officials from the Bribery Commission stated that the investigation files have been completed and submitted to the Commissioners of CIABOC for further legal action and instructions.
The Commission requested the court for a new date to report on the progress of the next steps following the Commissioners' review.
The allegations against the former Minister center on a 2023 agreement involving the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE). It is alleged that Nanayakkara committed an act of corruption by outsourcing the training of human resource officers at the SLBFE to a private company, thereby causing a significant financial loss to the state.
Additionally, the former Minister has been under scrutiny for alleged irregularities regarding the deployment of Sri Lankan workers to Israel's agricultural sector during the previous administration.
After considering the submissions, Chief Magistrate Bodaragama ordered the case to be recalled on August 28, 2026. The Bribery Commission was directed to present an updated progress report on the legal proceedings and the final decision of the Commissioners on that date.
