An International Monetary Fund (IMF) staff team will visit Sri Lanka from March 26 to April 9 to hold discussions on economic policies and review progress under the country’s reform programme, IMF Communications Director Julie Kozack announced.

Speaking at a media briefing, Kozack said the mission aims to complete the combined fifth and sixth reviews of the IMF-supported programme, while also assessing the potential impact of the ongoing Middle East conflict on Sri Lanka’s economy.

She noted that IMF officials will engage with Sri Lankan authorities during the visit to better understand how the crisis could affect the country’s economic outlook.

“Following the mission, the team will return with an updated assessment of Sri Lanka’s economy and how the IMF can continue to support the country,” Kozack said.

She added that the IMF is actively engaging with member countries affected by the Middle East conflict, evaluating global economic risks and offering support through policy advice, technical assistance and financial resources where necessary.

Kozack further stated that the IMF has been in discussions with finance ministers, central bank governors and regional institutions to assess the broader implications of the conflict. She emphasized that the overall economic impact will depend on the duration and intensity of the crisis.

An updated global and country-level assessment will be presented in the IMF’s World Economic Outlook report to be released in April, she added.
