The project is being carried out under the “Dream Destination” programme of the Clean Sri Lanka initiative, aiming to improve railway infrastructure and provide a safer, more comfortable experience for passengers. An estimated Rs. 60 million has been allocated for the upgrade, which is expected to be completed within five months.
Funded largely through contributions from the Bohra community and supported by private sector expertise, the project will include upgrades to platforms, sanitation facilities, lighting, security systems, accessibility for persons with disabilities, and overall station infrastructure.
Speaking at the launch, Minister Bimal Ratnayake commended the Bohra community’s contribution, describing it as an example of unity and social responsibility. He noted that such initiatives reflect a broader commitment to national development, particularly in a context of religious harmony.
