According to the Authority, this move aims to ensure the safety and quality of drinking water containers commonly used by young children. Officials emphasized that enforcement of the new rule will be stringent, and non-compliant products will not be allowed in the market.

The Consumer Affairs Authority has announced that all plastic water bottles used by infants and school children must comply with national safety standards starting next month.

Acting Director General Samantha Karunarathne stated that the regulation will strictly require all imported and locally distributed water bottles to meet the specifications outlined in Sri Lanka Standards 1616 and 1306.

The regulation applies to all plastic water bottles intended for carrying drinking water for infants and school-aged children, reinforcing the government’s commitment to public health and consumer protection.
