The Iranian ship IRIS Bushehr has not yet been moved to the Trincomalee Port due to a technical fault, Minister of Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath informed Parliament today (19).

Speaking during a parliamentary debate, the Minister said the vessel is currently anchored approximately 9.5 nautical miles off Colombo.

He explained that authorities intend to transfer the ship to Trincomalee, but the process has been delayed due to an engine malfunction.

“We have obtained the necessary technical assistance from a private company. Once repairs are completed, the vessel will be taken to Trincomalee Port and detained,” the Minister said.
