A new fuel distribution system based on the last digit of vehicle number plates has come into effect from today (March 19), authorities announced.

According to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, vehicle owners will be eligible to obtain fuel on specific days depending on whether the last digit of their number plate is odd or even. Vehicles with number plates ending in 0 or an even number can obtain fuel on even-numbered dates, while those with odd-numbered last digits can refuel on odd-numbered dates.

Officials further stated that vehicle owners who have already registered in the system and whose vehicle ownership and registered mobile number remain unchanged can continue using their existing QR code without any disruption to obtain fuel.

For those who had previously registered but have lost or deleted their QR code (while their vehicle and phone number details remain unchanged), re-registration is not required. They can simply log into the system and retrieve their QR code using a one-time password (OTP) sent to their mobile phone.

However, individuals who have not registered before, those who have recently purchased vehicles (resulting in a change of ownership), or those who are no longer using their previously registered phone number are required to register מחדש in the system.

Authorities request all vehicle owners to adhere to these guidelines in order to minimize congestion at fuel stations and ensure a more efficient service.

For further information or assistance regarding the system, the public can contact the Government Information Center via the hotline 1919.
