A special discussion was held today between Minister of Health and Mass Media Nalinda Jayatissa and representatives of Meta to explore practical measures to prevent the spread of misinformation on social media platforms.

The meeting focused on strengthening digital security and expanding the dissemination of accurate information to counter false content online. Improving the reliability and accuracy of digital information was also a key area of discussion.

Both parties further explored potential collaboration to address the rising issue of illegal drug use among youth, in line with the government’s Ratam Ekata programme aimed at combating drug trafficking and raising awareness.

Meta representatives expressed their support for the initiative, highlighting the importance of coordinated efforts between the government and digital platforms to tackle misinformation and broader social challenges.
