The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) said that fuel will be issued based on the last digit of vehicle number plates starting from March 19, alongside the QR code system.

CPC Managing Director Mayura Netthikumara said that vehicles with number plates ending in 0, 2, 4, 6, and 8 will be eligible to obtain fuel on even-numbered days, while those ending in 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 will be served on odd-numbered days.

The government recently reactivated the QR code-based fuel distribution system from March 16 in response to increasing pressure on fuel supplies.

Authorities noted that ongoing disruptions to fuel supply routes, linked to the Middle East conflict, along with a sharp rise in domestic demand, have necessitated tighter distribution measures.

The CPC said that the move aims to manage fuel availability more efficiently and reduce congestion at filling stations across the country.
