Showers and thundershowers are forecast to affect most parts of Sri Lanka after 2.00 p.m. today, according to the latest weather advisory. Conditions are expected to intensify in several regions, with fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm likely in parts of the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, and Uva provinces, as well as in Anuradhapura District.

Meteorologists also noted that a few morning showers may occur along eastern coastal areas, while misty conditions are anticipated during early hours in Central, Sabaragamuwa, North-Western, and Uva provinces, along with districts including Galle District, Matara District, Kalutara District, and Anuradhapura.

Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions against localized strong winds and lightning that may accompany thundershowers.

Sea Conditions

Showers are expected in sea areas off the eastern coast, particularly from Trincomalee to Hambantota via Batticaloa. Meanwhile, evening or nighttime thundershowers may develop in waters stretching from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle.

Winds over surrounding sea areas will be south-easterly or variable, with speeds ranging between 20–30 km/h. The sea is expected to remain slight under normal conditions, though temporarily strong gusty winds and rough seas may occur during thundershowers.

Fishermen and those engaging in maritime activities are advised to stay alert to sudden weather changes.
