Located across approximately 602 hectares, Namal Uyana is considered the largest Na (ironwood) forest in Sri Lanka and has already been designated as a protected forest reserve. The expert subcommittee on National Heritage Identification in Sri Lanka has recommended the designation, emphasizing that Namal Uyana represents a rare convergence of geological, ecological, and cultural heritage values.
