The Commissioner General of Essential Services, Prabath Chandrakeerthi, has announced that tuition classes will be prohibited on Wednesdays, which have been declared a special government holiday.

According to the statement made yesterday (16), every Wednesday will be observed as a holiday for government institutions, including courts, schools, and universities.

However, key public service sectors such as health, ports, water supply, energy, and customs will continue operations and are exempt from this special holiday arrangement.

In addition, all government events have been suspended until further notice. The Commissioner General has also urged the private sector to recognize Wednesdays as a holiday until further notice.

Meanwhile, the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration stated that heads of government institutions and ministry secretaries have been given the authority to decide how to manage staff during the remaining four working days of the week.
