According to an official at the Ambewela Railway Station, the engine of a service train that was operating from Badulla to Ambewela derailed at Haputale, causing interruptions to train operations along that section of the railway line.
Railway authorities stated that until the derailed engine is placed back on the track, trains operating from Ambewela to Badulla will only run up to Haputale.
Similarly, trains traveling from Badulla toward Ambewela will also operate only up to Haputale. Passengers on the affected trains will be transferred between the two trains at Haputale station to continue their journeys.
Railway officials said arrangements have been made to facilitate the transfer of passengers between trains until normal train services are restored.
