The highlight of the final day was a superb unbeaten century by Thomian coloursman Jaden Amaraweera in the second innings, guiding S. Thomas’ to 176 for 6 and securing a tame draw. Amaraweera also made 52 in the first innings, producing a memorable all-round performance.
Earlier, S. Thomas’ posted 302 in their first innings with contributions from Reshon Solomons (66), Amaraweera (52) and Avinash Fernando (50). Royal replied with 261 for 9 declared, powered by a blistering 82 from former skipper Ramiru Perera and 63 by Rehan Peiris.
With the match drawn, S. Thomas’ retained the D.S. Senanayake Challenge Shield by virtue of their victory in the 2025 encounter.
Following the result, the overall Royal-Thomian tally stands level with 36 wins each for Royal and S. Thomas’, while 75 matches have ended in draws out of 147 played.
The two schools will next meet in the limited-over encounter for the Mustangs Trophy scheduled for March 28 at the SSC Grounds under lights.
