According to the ministry, fuel will not be issued at any filling station without a registered QR code. Vehicle owners must register and download their QR codes through the official website: https://fuelpass.gov.lk/.
Authorities said the decision was taken due to disruptions in global fuel supply routes caused by the ongoing military situation in the Middle East, which has increased fuel demand in the country. The government also noted that illegal fuel hoarding and rackets have contributed to the rising demand.
The QR system aims to control hoarding, manage limited fuel reserves, and ensure uninterrupted economic activities for the public.
Vehicle owners who previously registered can download their QR codes from midnight on March 14, 2026, if their vehicle ownership and phone number remain unchanged. Those with changes in ownership or contact details, as well as new vehicle registrations, must re-register on the website starting from 6.00 a.m. today.
