The program, based on a concept by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, focused on raising public awareness and fostering community participation to achieve two main objectives: suppressing the sale of illegal drugs and guiding those struggling with addiction toward rehabilitation.
Awareness campaigns were conducted across the Tangalle, Angunakolapelessa, Hungama, and Ambalantota police divisions, targeting local security committees. The event was attended by Hambantota District Parliamentarian Dr. Sandaruwan Madarasinghe, Tangalle Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Sandaruwan P. Baduge, government officials, senior police officers, public representatives, and local residents.
Organizers emphasized the importance of active community involvement in drug prevention efforts, highlighting that coordinated action between authorities and residents is key to making the “Ratama Ekata” operation successful.
