Heavy rain and thundershowers for next 36 hours

The Meteorology Department has issued a warning of potentially heavy rainfall and thundershowers over the next 36 hours in several parts of the country.

Tonight: Showers or thundershowers are expected in Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Northwestern provinces, as well as in Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara-Eliya districts. Some areas in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, along with Galle and Matara districts, may receive heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm.

Tomorrow: Afternoon showers will affect Sabaragamuwa, Central, and Uva provinces, and the districts of Galle and Matara. A few isolated showers may occur in Eastern province, Polonnaruwa, and Hambantota districts, while most other regions will experience mainly fair weather. Early morning mist is likely in parts of Central, Sabaragamuwa, and Uva provinces, as well as Galle and Matara districts.

The public is advised to take precautions against strong localized winds and lightning during thundershowers.
