The Colombo Magistrate’s Court today (13) ordered former Chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, Dhammika Ranatunga, to appear before the Colombo High Court once he is served with notice in a corruption case.

During the hearing, officials from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption informed the court that indictments have already been filed against Ranatunga before the High Court. The request to have the former chairman appear before the High Court was made by the Bribery Commission.

Following this, the Magistrate ordered the closure of proceedings pending in the Magistrate’s Court regarding this matter.

Ranatunga faces allegations of causing a loss of nearly Rs. 800 million to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation by allegedly aiding and abetting the cancellation of three long-term tenders scheduled for the 2017–2018 fuel purchases. Instead, fuel was reportedly procured through 27 local tenders at higher prices.
