According to local officials, the bodies were previously kept in two freezers at the Galle National Hospital and have now been transported to Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport for air transfer.
Authorities stated that arrangements are also being made to send the bodies of the remaining Iranian sailors who died in the incident back to their country.
The repatriation is taking place following an order issued by the Chief Magistrate of Galle, directing that the bodies be handed over to the Embassy of Iran in Sri Lanka.
The vessel IRIS Dena reportedly sank after being struck by a torpedo fired by a United States submarine in international waters about 19 nautical miles off Galle on the 4th of this month.
