Rajapaksa, who was previously arrested by the Bribery Commission and later released on bail, appeared before court along with the other suspects when the case was taken up.
During the hearing, officials from the Bribery Commission told the court that the investigation into the incident has concluded and that the relevant files have been forwarded to the commission for further action. They requested a date to report the progress of the case.
After considering the submissions, the Magistrate ordered that the case be called again on July 10.
The complaint filed by the Bribery Commission alleges that Rajapaksa and three others attempted to pressure officials to obtain compensation amounting to Rs. 8.85 million for property damaged during the protests. The property included a building that had allegedly been illegally constructed on land belonging to the Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka in the Sevanagala area.
