The accident reportedly occurred around 11:30 a.m. within the school premises.
Police said two schoolchildren who were drinking water at the time were struck by the vehicle. One child died from injuries sustained in the incident, while the other injured student was admitted to the hospital in Kandy for treatment.
In a statement regarding the incident, the owner of the vehicle, who is also a director of the school, said the accident occurred after he had stopped the vehicle and got out of it.
Police have arrested the driver in connection with the incident. The suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Kandy Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
