The raid was carried out at a scrap metal collection yard located at No. 16/2, Pahala Biyagama, Biyagama. According to authorities, the suspects had been fraudulently obtaining diesel from lorries and storing it at the location.
During the operation, officers also seized two bowser vehicles bearing registration numbers LG 9628 and LK 0506. In addition to the large stock of diesel, a sum of Rs. 381,000 in cash was also recovered.
The arrested suspects have been identified as:
Migamage Sanjeewa Prasad, a resident of No. 627/2, Heyiyantuduwa, Biyagama – believed to be the main suspect involved in the illegal operation.
Pitiduwa Hewage Theekshana Dineth, of No. D96/B, Ihala Morawaka, Nelumdeniya.
Munasinghe Arachchige Tharuka Sanjeewa, of Bajgama Watta, Palallapitiya, Thihagoda.
Pitiduwa Hewayalage Malith Sachintha Pabasara, also of No. D96/B, Ihala Morawaka, Nelumdeniya.
The suspects along with the seized diesel, vehicles, and cash have been handed over to the Biyagama Police Station for further investigation.
