The Supreme Court of Sri Lanka has postponed the announcement of its verdict on the appeal petitions filed by former ministers Mahindananda Aluthgamage and Nalin Fernando challenging the prison sentences imposed on them over corruption charges.

The hearing of the appeals was held before a five-member Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena.

The appeal proceedings continued for the third consecutive day today, during which submissions made by the defence lawyers as well as the representatives of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption were completed.

Following the conclusion of the arguments, the Supreme Court decided to postpone the announcement of the verdict on the appeals to a later date.
