According to the CID, statements will be recorded from the officers who escorted Madush to the Maligawatte area on the day of the killing.
The incident occurred on October 20, 2020, when Madush was taken by Colombo Crimes Division officers to Maligawatte to seize a stock of drugs based on information he had provided. During this operation, he was shot by two unknown assailants.
Following a request from Madush’s brother to the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Security, the investigation was referred to the CID by the Inspector General of Police.
The police also said that, after notifying the Colombo Magistrate's Court, the court obtained orders to record statements from the attending medical officer and to collect media footage related to the murder.
