The remarks came after Sujeewa Senasinghe, MP of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), questioned the government’s spending on cold storage units used to preserve the bodies. Addressing the media, Senasinghe raised concerns about the duration and cost of maintaining over 80 bodies, noting uncertainties regarding the rescued sailors’ status and the government’s preparedness.
In response, Minister Jayatissa stated that the government will continue to bear all expenses as long as the sailors’ remains remain in Sri Lanka, the sailors are under government responsibility, and injured Iranian personnel are admitted to Sri Lankan hospitals. He emphasized that the measures are being taken purely on humanitarian grounds, sharing the statement via social media.
