According to the Minister, the vessel was intercepted during a special naval operation conducted in the deep seas off Sri Lanka’s southern coast.
Wijepala stated that the vessel is expected to be brought ashore within the next two days for further investigation.
He also revealed that security forces recovered a significant quantity of weapons from the vessel.
Meanwhile, in a separate operation carried out on March 7, the Sri Lanka Navy seized another fishing trawler in the deep seas off the southern coast. Authorities recovered 102 kilograms of heroin and 900 grams of cocaine from the vessel.
