According to the Commission, Ranasinghe is accused of influencing the investigation into the theft of the Sandagala, a historical archaeological artefact located near the entrance gate of the palace of Sri Weera Parakrama Narendra Singha, the last king of the Sinhala dynasty of the Kingdom of Kandy.
The artefact was situated at the Uda Maluwa Archaeological Site in Kundasale.
Police further stated that the former DIG allegedly assisted several suspects connected to the theft to evade arrest.
The suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court for further legal proceedings.
