Foreign nationals in Sri Lanka who were unable to depart due to flight cancellations to the Middle East can now stay legally in the country under extended visa arrangements, the government has announced.

The initiative covers travelers whose flights were canceled from February 28, 2026, allowing them to remain in Sri Lanka for an initial 14-day period without paying any fees. Should further disruptions occur, visas can be extended for another 14 days without penalties.

The Cabinet approved the measure, proposed by the Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, to ensure that affected passengers are able to make alternative travel arrangements without facing legal or financial difficulties.
