Under the proposed agreement, eligible passport holders from both countries will be permitted to enter, transit and stay in the territory of the other country for a period of up to 30 days without a visa.
The move is aimed at facilitating official travel and strengthening the longstanding friendly cooperation between Sri Lanka and Nepal by removing procedural barriers related to visa requirements.
The proposal to sign the agreement was submitted to the Cabinet by the Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs and was subsequently approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
