As a small, open economy, Sri Lanka is particularly vulnerable to external shocks due to its reliance on energy imports, remittances from expatriate workers in the Middle East, and trade and investment ties with the region.
The committee, approved by the Cabinet on the proposal of the Hon. President, will be chaired by the Minister of Labor, Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando, with the Deputy Minister of Planning and heads of relevant institutions and experts as members.
Its primary role will be to closely monitor developments in the global economy and recommend measures to mitigate adverse effects on Sri Lanka’s economic stability.
