The Sri Lanka Navy, together with the Sri Lanka Coast Guard, foiled an attempt to smuggle gold into the country and arrested two suspects during a coordinated operation on the morning of March 9.

Acting on credible intelligence, naval personnel intercepted a dinghy in the territorial waters off Kankesanthurai in Jaffna. During the operation, authorities recovered 6 kilograms and 865 grams of gold that was allegedly being smuggled into Sri Lanka.

The two suspects, aged 41 and 49, are residents of Madagal in Jaffna.

The suspects, along with the seized gold and the dinghy used in the smuggling attempt, were handed over to the Customs Sub Preventive Office in Kankesanthurai for further legal action.
