A Sri Lankan national travelling to Israel is currently stranded at Muscat Airport in Oman, and flydubai has provided him with accommodation until onward travel arrangements can be made. Meanwhile, two Sri Lankan postgraduate students in Tel Aviv and Haifa are continuing their studies without interruption.
A 20-year-old Sri Lankan national is currently being held at an Israeli immigration detention centre due to lack of a valid visa. Israeli immigration authorities have informed the embassy that he will be repatriated to Sri Lanka once normal flight operations resume.
In addition, 15 Sri Lankan nationals from one group and 31 from another group have been reported to be in areas close to the Israeli-Lebanese border, which are considered high-risk locations. The embassy is closely monitoring their situation and maintaining contact with them.
Missile and drone warnings have been sounded several times in the past few hours, including in central Israel and Jerusalem, and sirens have been heard several times since midnight. Residents were advised to seek shelter when the warnings were sounded.
Iranian missiles were launched towards central Israel, and one missile carrying cluster shards injured at least seven people, one of them seriously. Israeli air defense systems intercepted several missiles, but falling debris caused injuries and property damage.
Since the escalation began on 28 February 2026, Iran has launched more than 500 missiles and nearly 2,000 drones, most of which have been directed towards Israel.
Hezbollah has intensified attacks from southern Lebanon, and has fired more than 210 rockets and missiles towards northern Israel since early March.
At present, there are no confirmed reports of Sri Lankan nationals being injured as a result of the recent incidents. The Sri Lankan Embassy in Israel is closely monitoring the situation and is in contact with the relevant Israeli authorities.
Sri Lankan nationals residing in Israel are strongly advised to remain vigilant, follow the instructions issued by the Israeli Home Front Command, and immediately go to the nearest shelter when sirens are heard or warnings are received on mobile phones.
