According to recommendations by the World Health Organization, a national-level oral health survey should be conducted at least once every 10 years in order to understand and monitor oral health conditions within a country.
In line with this recommendation, the survey will be carried out from today until November, covering all districts across Sri Lanka. Health authorities plan to collect data from a random sample of 10,000 individuals, including school students and adults from different age groups.
Data collection among school children will take place within school premises, while adult participants will be visited at their homes. During the process, participants will be asked to complete an oral health questionnaire and undergo a basic oral health examination conducted by medical teams.
The Health Ministry stated that the data gathered through this survey will play a crucial role in planning future oral health services and policies.
Therefore, the ministry has requested the public to extend their fullest cooperation to the medical teams visiting homes and schools for the purpose of this national survey.
