Gunawardena was taken into custody this morning (09) when he arrived at the commission in connection with an investigation into the alleged illegal acquisition of assets valued at Rs. 243.8 million.
Following his arrest, he was produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court.
After considering the facts presented, Asanga S. Bodaragama, the Colombo Chief Magistrate, ordered that the suspect be remanded in custody until March 24 while investigations continue.
