Shop owner arrested for illegal fuel storage in Guruthalawa

Police have arrested a shop owner for allegedly storing fuel illegally for sale at inflated prices during a raid carried out in the Guruthalawa area.

Officers from the Sri Lanka Police attached to the Bogahakumbura Police Station conducted the raid yesterday (9) following a tip-off regarding the illegal storage of diesel and petrol without a licence.

During the operation, police arrested a 44-year-old resident of the Karagasthenna area in Guruthalawa

Police said the suspect was taken into custody with 22 litres of fuel that had been stored for sale at higher prices. The stock included 12 litres of diesel and 10 litres of petrol.

According to police, the raid was carried out undercover before the suspect was apprehended with the illegally stored fuel.

Further investigations are being conducted by Bogahakumbura Police.
