According to a memo issued by the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, the decision was taken during a University Safety Committee meeting held on March 4 after multiple sightings and related incidents were reported across the campus.
The notice states that leopards have been spotted in several locations within the university grounds. In addition, a number of attacks on farm animals have been reported at the Veterinary Teaching Farm.
In response, the university administration has advised all students and staff to remain vigilant and follow necessary safety precautions while moving around the campus.
Members of the university community have also been urged to avoid walking alone, particularly during early morning, late evening and night hours, and to immediately inform the University Security Division if a leopard is sighted.
Authorities have further called for extra caution in and around the Veterinary Teaching Farm and surrounding areas where several incidents have been reported.
