The group includes 32 Iranian Navy personnel rescued after their ship, IRIS Dena, was sunk in a submarine attack, as well as 208 crew members from the second Iranian vessel, IRIS Busher, who were evacuated by Sri Lankan authorities.
It was reported that Cabinet approval for issuing the visas will be sought tomorrow. In addition to the visas, the rescued personnel will be provided with accommodation and security during their stay in the country.
Authorities will also coordinate with the Embassy of Iran in Colombo regarding arrangements for the group. Their eventual repatriation will be carried out in accordance with relevant international laws, the official added.
Meanwhile, foreign visitors stranded in Sri Lanka due to flight cancellations and airport closures following the outbreak of the war will be granted an additional two-week free visa extension, the ministry official said.
