State of emergency extended for another month

Parliament has approved the motion to extend the declared state of public emergency for another month with a majority of 100 votes.

The motion received 108 votes in favour and eight votes against when it was taken up in Parliament.

Speaker Jagath Wickramanayake informed the House that the motion, presented under Subject No. 81 of the Public Security Ordinance, was passed by a majority of 100 votes.

Meanwhile, the motion presented under the Essential Public Services Act was also duly approved by Parliament.
