The United States Embassy in Sri Lanka has urged American citizens residing in the country to stay informed about the latest security updates in light of the current situation in the Middle East.

In a statement shared on its official social media platforms, the embassy encouraged all U.S. citizens to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive timely security alerts and updates from the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.

“We encourage all U.S. citizens to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) at http://step.state.gov to receive the latest security updates from the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate,” the statement said.

The embassy also noted that American citizens in Sri Lanka who wish to return to the United States have commercial travel options available that avoid transit through the Middle East region.

Additionally, individuals whose travel plans have been affected and who wish to speak with a consular officer can visit the embassy during designated walk-in hours from Monday to Thursday, between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.

For emergency assistance, or if it is not possible to visit during the specified hours, the embassy advised contacting the American Citizen Services unit at +94-11-202-8500 or reaching out via email through the ACS Visa Navigator available at https://tinyurl.com/ACS-Visa-Navigator.

The embassy emphasized the importance of staying updated on security developments and using official channels to receive accurate and timely information.
