Property worth nearly Rs. 20 million belonging to alleged organized criminal and large-scale drug trafficker Salindu Malshitha has been frozen by authorities.

The Illicit Assets Investigation Division said the property, located at Mahabelana Junction on the Panadura–Ratnapura Road, includes a house, a warehouse complex and a shop situated on a 40-perch plot of land.

Police said the action was taken following a lengthy investigation which revealed that the assets had allegedly been purchased using money earned from drug trafficking activities.

Salindu Malshitha, also known as “Kudu Salindu,” had previously been arrested while hiding overseas and brought back to Sri Lanka. However, he later fled the country after being produced before court.

Investigators said recent clashes between the factions of Kudu Salindu and Kudu Nilanga led to several shootings and killings in the police areas of Panadura South, Hirana and Pinwatte. The situation eased after police arrested several individuals including Kudu Nilanga.

Police said Kudu Salindu is currently believed to be hiding in a foreign country while further investigations are being carried out by the Illicit Assets Investigation Division.
