Fisheries Minister Ramalingam Chandrasekar today (05) urged Sri Lankan fishermen to avoid venturing beyond the country’s maritime boundaries in light of the current security situation in regional and international waters.

Speaking in Parliament, the Minister referred to reports that an Iranian warship had been sunk following a torpedo attack by a United States submarine, as well as another Iranian vessel currently stationed in Sri Lankan waters.

He emphasized that the Government has a responsibility to ensure the safety of local fishermen and therefore requested them not to violate Sri Lanka’s maritime borders by entering other countries’ sea territories.

The Minister stressed that adhering to these guidelines would help protect fishermen during this period of heightened maritime security concerns.
