Investigating officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption arrested the suspect at the canteen of the Ministry of Health yesterday.
According to officials, the suspect had allegedly demanded and received the bribe through cheques on seven occasions after the Ministry of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine leased a building from a private institution in 2018. The payments were allegedly solicited in return for promising to issue the relevant rent cheques without delay.
The arrested suspect was produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court and remanded in custody until March 17, 2026.
