The observation was made when counsel appearing on behalf of Sallay filed a motion seeking clarification from Court. In response to an inquiry by the Magistrate, the officer appearing for the CID informed Court that no facts had been reported thus far in relation to the incident.
Counsel for the suspect submitted that Wednesday had been granted to meet their client, who is being detained and interrogated, in order to obtain instructions, and requested that an additional date be fixed for the same purpose.
They further sought permission for the suspect to receive meals from his residence, citing alleged threats to his life due to services rendered to the Republic of Sri Lanka. Counsel also requested that Sallay’s son be granted access to visit him.
It was submitted that the arrest had been carried out by CID officers on February 25, 2026. Following the arrest, the suspect was taken to his residence, where officers stated that a search was necessary. When his wife inquired about a search warrant, officers reportedly informed her that under the PTA, a warrant was not required.
Counsel informed Court that although CID officers conducted a full search of the residence, no female police officer had been present at the time.
