The Ministry said the unit has been set up with a focus on prioritising the safety and wellbeing of Sri Lankan nationals, with nearly one million Sri Lankans living and working in the region. Ensuring their protection remains the Government’s foremost concern.

The unit will also assist non-Sri Lankan nationals currently in Sri Lanka who may face difficulties due to the prevailing situation. Such cases will be addressed individually.

According to the Ministry, the Emergency Response Unit will operate daily from 8.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m., including weekends.
