The cancellations involve flights operating through Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake. Accordingly, 28 outbound flights scheduled to depart from Sri Lanka and 29 inbound flights due to arrive in the country have been called off.
Meanwhile, four additional flights scheduled for tomorrow (04) have also been cancelled.
The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka, Captain Daminda Rambukwella, stated that flights operating to and from the Middle East, as well as services transiting through the region to other destinations, have been temporarily suspended in view of safety concerns.
However, he noted that a limited number of flights operated through the affected airspace earlier this morning.
