Sri Lanka’s Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation, Anura Karunathilaka, says steps are being taken to bring back Sri Lankan air passengers stranded at foreign airports.

Speaking at a media briefing held yesterday (02) at the Ministry of Ports, the Minister stated that the government is actively working to assist citizens affected by the ongoing situation in the Middle East.

He noted that, due to the prevailing conditions in the Middle East region, flights to destinations within that zone remain suspended. However, all other international flight operations have resumed as usual.

The Minister further explained that flights to countries such as the United Kingdom and the United States previously operated via Middle Eastern transit hubs. Authorities are now engaged in discussions to reroute these services through Turkey as an alternative transit point.

Additionally, he assured that there have been no disruptions to vessels scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka.

The government says further updates will be provided as arrangements progress.
