Sri Lanka extends state of Public Emergency

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has issued an Extraordinary Gazette notification extending the state of Public Emergency in Sri Lanka, effective from February 28.

According to the Gazette, the extension has been declared in view of the prevailing public emergency situation in the country. The notification states that the measure is necessary to ensure public security, safeguard the well-being of the nation, and maintain essential supplies and services vital to public life.

The Extraordinary Gazette has been issued under the powers vested in the President by Section 2 of the Public Security Ordinance.

The government emphasized that the continuation of the state of emergency is considered appropriate under the current circumstances to maintain stability and public order across the country.
